Travelling to Johor Bahru by Train from Singapore

Spending a day at Johor Bahru should be on everyone’s itinerary when in Singapore.  As Johor Bahru is just a causeway bridge away from Singapore, it is easily accessible by a bus or train ride. However, if you’re pressed for time, taking the train is definitely the way to go as it’ll only take 5 minutes to get there.

Getting There

First, you need to buy train tickets. You can get tickets for SGD 5 through online booking (additional fees apply) or at the ticket counter at the Woodlands Train Checkpoint.

Tip: If you’re visiting Johor Bahru on a weekend or during the holidays, it is highly recommended that you book your tickets online to avoid hassle and disappointment.

Also, you will need your valid passport since this trip technically qualifies as visiting another country, and you will need it to purchase your tickets.

How to Purchase Tickets Online

  1. Visit the KTM website.
  2. Select Singapore for your place of departure and Johor, Malaysia for your destination.
  3. Input your preferred travel dates.

Note: And while you will be asked to select your preferred seats, do note that in actuality, it is free seating.

  1. Print out the confirmation / e-ticket.
  2. If you were issued a confirmation, you will have to exchange this for an actual ticket at the first level of the Woodlands Train Checkpoint. Otherwise, just head straight over to the gates on the 2nd level at least 20 minutes before your train’s departure time.

From Singapore, you will have to be cleared by two customs – from Singapore and Malaysia. Once you have been cleared by immigration, you can then board on the train.  You should be able to find seats easily.

Otherwise, standing shouldn’t be a hassle as the entire ride will last only for 5 minutes.  Upon arrival, head out and go into JB Square Mall. When in doubt, you can simply ask for directions or follow the crowd and you should be okay.
