Last September 26 (Wednesday), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has announced in a press statement that members of the public who have passed the Traffic Police (TP) driving test can apply for new and replacement Qualified Driving Licences (QDLs) online starting October 1, as shared in a report by the Online Citizen.

The only limitation of the online system is with those applying for 2B QDL[1], who must take the Expressway Familiarisation Ride training programme first.

With the new system, citizens of Singapore as well as permanent residents can use their Singpass account to log on to the Singapore Police Force website or through the Police@SG mobile app.

The police shared that those who will successfully pass the application process will receive their new or replacement driving licenses by post within a week or seven (7) working days.

While replacements for lost, damaged, or defaced licences can be done online, this service is only available for Singapore citizens and permanent residents according to the police. This means that foreigners will have to apply for their driving license replacement at the TP Headquarters whereas conversion of foreign driving licenses will still be done in person at any driving centre.

With the introduction of online applications, the Traffic Police will no longer entertain over-the-counter applications, except for foreign driving license conversion and replacement of QDLs for foreigners.

Those who do not have access to the internet or lack the know-how to apply online may use the self-service terminals that will soon become available at all driving centres and TP headquarters in Singapore where personnel will be prepared to offer assistance.
