Select MRT Train Services to be Cut Short on some Weekends of Aug and Sept

With the series of ongoing maintenance work along the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) stations still in effect, SMRT had announced that seven (7) stations along the East-West Line (EWL) and three (3) stations along the North-South Line (NSL) will be closed earlier on certain Fridays and Saturdays, and then opened later on some weekends between August and September to accommodate important rail maintenance work.

The stations that will be affected by the railway maintenance work are from those along Dover to Pioneer and then from Bukit Gombak to Jurong East. The affected stations will close earlier around 11 pm on certain Fridays and Saturdays, and open later at 8 am on some Saturdays and Sundays, according to a statement released by SMRT last July 18.

Train Schedule Adjustments for 7 EWL and 3 NSL Stations to take Effect on Some Weekends of August and September

According to the media statement of SMRT, the group’s engineering teams will be using the additional hour to push through with their track maintenance and renewal activities along the aforementioned sections of the NSEWL.

While track maintenance and railway upgrades are underway, a bi-directional shuttle will service passengers between Queenstown, Commonwealth, and Buona Vista MRT stations using a single route. This setup will enable train services to continue between the three stations while repair and upgrade work is facilitated for the rest of the EWL.

Furthermore, an express bus service will offer connecting rides to major stops along the EWL line, shared the SMRT. Express bus 5 will service direct trips from Boon Lay MRT station to Jurong East and Buona Vista stations, and to direct trips from Buona Vista MRT station to Boon Lay and Jurong East MRT stations.

In relation to the upcoming changes, the SMRT encourages commuters to check station-specific schedules via the SMRT trains’ website and/or their social media platforms as departure times for the first and last trains at the affected stations may vary.
