New Road Connecting Punggol and KPE, TPE to Open One Year Ahead of Schedule

With traffic becoming a routine problem along the TPE between the Punggol Way and KPE exits, the construction of the new road was conceptualized to solve this problem. The said project was originally set to open by the third quarter of 2019.

Punggol-KPE, TPE Connection to Open by late November

In a post shared on social media last October 15 (Monday), the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Ng Chee Meng revealed that the new road would be completed earlier than scheduled – by late November of this year.

The road project is part of the expansion plan covering the intersection between the KPE and the TPE, which was started in 2015. The project includes the construction of roads, three vehicular bridges bypassing Sungei Serangoon and Sungei Blukar and a new flyover across the TPE.

Back in 2016, an announcement was also made regarding another road project slated for construction which will link Punggol Central to Pasir Ris Industrial Drive 1.

Residents of Punggol welcome the new development as they hope this would help ease peak-hour congestion on the TPE.

Some of the residents at Blk 104B shared their experiences with Ng Chee Meng regarding their daily bouts with congestion in their area. Some noted that with clear roads, travelling to Pasir Ris by car would typically take them only 15 minutes, but it could extend to 45 minutes due to morning road congestion.

With the opening of the new road scheduled by the end of November, residents can expect smoother and faster travels in and out of the area.
