Parking.sg App will be available for heavy vehicles and motorcycles starting Dec. 20

Singapore’s pay for parking app, Parking.sg, will be available to motorcyclists and motorists with large vehicles starting Dec. 20, as announced by the Housing and Development Board (HDB), Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), and Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) in a joint press release last Dec 19, Tuesday.

The app has been made available and used by private car owners to pay for parking charges using debit or credit cards since October this year. With the latest update, the app will now be made available for all types of vehicles in Singapore.

The app will pick up from the coupon system of payment for parking which normally charges motorists 60 cents per 30 minutes regardless if the motorists leave earlier. With the new app, parking fees will be automatically calculated based on 30-minute blocks. Should motorists choose to leave and terminate their session earlier, they will be charged by the minute and be given a refund.

Payment through the app will require motorists to key in their vehicle number, the duration for their parking session and a car park code which is available on-site.

The HDB, URA, and GovTech are also planning to enhance the app with additional features such as the option to export the user’s parking history as well as improved map features for more convenient parking space selection in the future.

At present, the app has already more than 300,000 downloads, more than half of which have been assigned to unique vehicle types that have been registered to over a million parking sessions in 1,100 public parking areas which require paper coupons all over Singapore.

The Parking.sg app was launched in October as announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his speech at the National Day Rally this year.
