According to the URA, around 109 car park locations in areas such as Bugis and Kampong Glam will be converted to creative public spaces from 1pm to 7pm this coming Saturday.

Dubbed as “parks,” these creative spaces will offer activities such as making bouquets, building miniature cities using egg cartons, as well as physical activities similar to table tennis.

The “parks” will be set up by members of the community in collaboration with students from 14 different schools on the island. This year’s edition marks the largest participation from involved schools to date.

For instance, students from Temasek Polytechnic will be organizing a game similar to table tennis where players will be required to assemble their own bats, and depending on the parts used, will play with a particular physical handicap, in a special “park” called Empathy and Inclusivity.

On the other hand, student volunteers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design have designed “Park-Park” which covers a total of 20 car park spaces. The special “park” will show how urban infrastructure can support and inspire events in public spaces, as explained by the URA.

Meanwhile, the “parks” to be handled and organized by community members include the LePark Corner in Tan Queen Lan Street, where open-mic jamming sessions will be held, and Balloons of Happyness in Arab Street, where guests can stomp on foot pumps to fill up colourful balloons to bring more colour in the events place.
