Singapore OFW’s Guide to Paying Pag-IBIG Contributions

What is Pag-IBIG, and what are the benefits it offers to its members? Let‘s take a moment to review these essential details:

What is Pag-IBIG?

The Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), also known as Pag-IBIG Fund, is a Philippine government corporation that offers affordable housing loans and savings programs to Filipino workers. Managed by the Philippine Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), the term Pag-IBIG stands for “Pagtutulungan sa kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya, at Gobyerno.”

Vision and Mission

The vision and mission statements of Pag-IBIG are presented on its official website, as follows:

Vision. “For every Filipino worker to save with Pag-IBIG Fund, to achieve their dream of home ownership, and to improve their quality of life.”

Mission. “To generate more savings from more Filipino workers, to administer a sustainable Fund with integrity, sound financial principles, and with social responsibility, and to provide accessible funds for housing of every member.”

Programs and Benefits

Pag-IBIG Fund members, including OFWs, can look forward to these programs and benefits:

Pag-Ibig I Savings

The Pag-IBIG 1 Savings Program is the regular savings program of Pag-IBIG. This is where members’ contributions (currently at PHP 200 per month) go, earning higher annual dividends compared to commercial banks. When members retire, they will receive the Total Accumulated Value (TAV), including all of their monthly savings, the employer’s counterpart (if applicable), and dividend earnings.

Modified Pag-IBIG 2 (MP2) Savings

For even higher earnings, members can join the Modified Pag-IBIG 2 (MP2) Savings Program. For a minimum of PHP 500 per month, they can save money in their MP2 account, watch it grow, and withdraw their money after a maturity period of five (5) years.

Housing Loan

The Pag-IBIG Fund Housing Loan offers up to PHP 6 million to its members. They can use this to build a house, improve a house, buy a residential lot, or buy a residential house and lot. Member can also use the money for refinancing an existing housing loan, or financing a combination of different housing purposes.

Health and Education Loan Programs (HELPs)

Members who need help financing health and education-related expenses can apply for this program, which offers up to 80 percent of their Pag-IBIG 1 Savings. To make the process faster and easier, funds are credited directly to the hospital and/or school concerned.

Multi-Purpose Loan (MPL)

As the name says, the Multi-Purpose Loan can be used for various purposes, including house improvements, children’s tuition, or capital for small businesses. Like HELPs, it offers loans up to 80 percent of members’ regular savings, payable over two (2) years.

Calamity Loan

In cases of natural calamities such as typhoons, floods, or earthquakes, members can apply for Pag-IBIG Funds’ Calamity Loan. This loan also amounts to a maximum of 80 percent of members’ regular savings, payable over two (2) or three (3) years.

How to Pay Pag-IBIG Contributions

Members can pay their Pag-IBIG Fund contributions via over-the-counter or online methods. In the Philippines as well as abroad, there are banks and remittance companies that accept over-the-counter payments. Among these are Asia United Bank (AUB), Philippine National Bank (PNB), and Ventaja International Corporation — along with their respective collecting agents.
