Singapore Airlines Ranks 2nd Best Airline in the World for 2019

Singapore has been known to offer high-quality services in the field of aviation, technology, and business financing. This is one of the many reasons why the country has become popular not only among tourists, but also expats who are looking find a new place to work and live in.

However, as the standards in services, technology, and business processes keep changing for the better, accomplishments in these areas easily become a thing of the past as competition becomes tighter in the region and all over the world.

Singapore Airlines is No. 2 Best Airline in the World for 2019

Coming from a strong finish at the top in 2018, Singapore Airlines now takes 2nd place after losing the Best Airline in the World title to Qatar Airways in 2019, as shared in a report by the Straits Times.

The Gulf Carrier reclaimed the top spot – which was previously awarded to Singapore Airlines – at the 2019 World Airline Awards in Paris on Tuesday (June 18).

Despite losing to Qatar Airways for the top honours this year, SIA was able to bag several key awards including best cabin crew, best first class, best airline in Asia, and best first-class seat.

The Gulf Carrier’s award this year makes it a five-time Best Airline in the World title-holder, following up its awards from 2017, 2015, 2012, and 2011.

Furthermore, the Qatar Airways also took home awards for best business class, best business-class seat, and best airline in the Middle East.

According to Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker, the distinction given was a proud moment for the airline in recognition of its constant innovation and service standards, setting the benchmark in the industry.

Meanwhile, Japanese airline All Nippon Airways came in third among the best airlines, with Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific and Emirates landing on fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

Other distinctions went to Malaysian carrier Air Asia for the world’s best low-cost airline, while Taiwan’s EVA Air clinched the award for cleanest airline.

Other winners include Bangkok Airways for world’s best regional airline, Philippine Airlines as the most improved airline, and Star Alliance as the best airline alliance.

The World Airline Awards, organised by London-based research firm Skytrax, are among the most prestigious in the airline industry.

The rankings are based on surveys provided by by global travellers, from which more than 21 million votes were counted in this year’s survey, which was conducted from September 2018 to May 2019.
