One unique thing about Filipinos is that we are very much family-centered. This means that whatever we pursue and achieve in life, our family will always be part of it.

Now, some people may view this negatively. However, for OFWs who sacrifice so much to achieve their goals and dreams in life, their successes wouldn’t feel much of an accomplishment if these are not celebrated and enjoyed with their families.
Singapore-Based Pinoy Engineer Shares Newly Constructed Dream House
In this feature post, we share an update from an OFW based in Singapore, Marvin Bernardo, who works as a construction engineer in one of the country’s multi-awarded industrial construction companies. Mr. Bernardo is a family man who hails from Cabiao, Nueva Ecija in the Philippines.
In his four years of working in Singapore, he was able to save up and invest in his “dream house” for his family in their hometown in Nueva Ecija.
He started building his house project in the Philippines back in 2018.
Having quite a large family, Mr. Bernardo had designed a 2-storey house, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a garage, as well as a terrace.
The house looks minimalistic yet very modern from the outside.
When you take a look at how the house was designed from the inside, you’ll see that every space has been optimized for maximum functionality.
Every room of the house was furnished using modern design. This gives us an idea of the taste of the owner of the house when it comes to construction and design, being a professional engineer himself.
The 120-sqm house was developed and constructed with a budget of Php 3.5 million (USD 70,000). It’s not exactly a small budget, but you can definitely see quality when you look through each part of the house as seen in the pictures below:

Many OFWs dream of working overseas to have this kind of “dream house” that the Bernados now have. With hard work and years of determination to save up and use their earnings wisely, Mr. Bernardo was able to complete their dream house back in March 2020. Now, all of his family including their grandparents comfortably live with them.
Indeed, no dream is too hard to accomplish if you put your heart and mind to achieve it. We hope this post has inspired you to dream big and work hard towards fulfilling your dreams for yourself and your family!
