Orchard Road Lights Up with Christmas Decors Featuring Disney, Pixar Characters

A long list of our favourite and well-loved Disney and Pixar characters which include Mickey and Minnie mouse, Cinderella, Elsa, and Woody, will headline Singapore’s shopping belt this Christmas season, as the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) has tied up with Walt Disney Company for the annual Orchard Road Light-up event, as shared in a report by Channel News Asia.

The event will be Disney’s grandest Christmas street light-up in the region to date according to the ORBA in press statement last September.

In its 35-year history, the ORBA has noted that this year will be the first time they will go with a “branded light-up” event.

A 2.88-km long section in Orchard Road – from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura – will be adorned in festive glow from November 10 to January 1.

The area will be divided into four zones, each with a unique Disney theme such as Mickey mouse and Friends, Disney Princess, Frozen, and Toy Story.

The centrepiece of the light-up, the main arch at the Orchard Road-Patterson Road Junction – will feature selected 3D Disney characters.

Trees on either side of the decorated strip will be adorned with glowing 3D Mickey Mouse models, the ORBA shared.

Furthermore, the two malls – Orchard Central and Wheelock Place – along Orchard Road, will take up Disney character designs, as well.

As for the Great Christmas Village, which made its debut last year, the Christmas pop-up will be back for a longer run at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza from Nov. 15 to Dec. 26. Other than live performances, the Great Christmas Village will also host several amusement rides and a duplex carousel equipped with a special seat carriage for wheelchair riders.

A craft beer bar will also be set up along with food stalls organized by local brands such as Two Wings and New Ubin Seafood.

The light-up ceremony was held last November 10 (Saturday) at 6:30 pm.
