December isn’t all just about shopping and eating out – at least not here in Singapore. There are plenty of activities to do and events to look forward to in the Lion City at the close of the year.
With the Christmas celebrations rolling in just a few days, here are some exciting pre- Christmas events you can check out during the holiday vacation:
Singapore Christmas 2017 Event Countdown
Flashbang Singapore is a pop-up flea market enclosed in shipping containers similar to Bangkok’s highly popular Artbox. This year, a total of 120 stalls flowing with food and drinks, as well as bright neon lights and more than a dozen of musical showcases will round up the artsy event at Grange Road and 313 @ Somerset’s Discovery Walk from Dec 9-30 from 3 pm to 11 pm daily.
Flashbang has something in store for everyone as the event will feature two unique sets of programmes: family-friendly for walk-in guests during the day, and party-vibes for evening visitors. Expect a delightful treat for the senses from the well-curated retail stalls and free-flowing food and beverage kiosks, interactive exhibits, as well as classic arcade games for guests of all ages.
The wildly-popular dance club party will return this year to Singaporean shores and make waves at Siloso Beach for an two awesome all-nighters of EDM dance party headlined by international acts such as DJ Snake and Axwell Ingrosso on December 8 and 9.
Guests have the option to book hotel packages to get the full Zoukout experience including free passes to the after party, courtesy of Hard Rock Hotel, Genting Jurong, Park Hotel Alexandria, and W Singapore. The package includes a pair of tickets to the event, complimentary breakfast and free ride transfers from the hotel to the venue of the event, and vice versa.
The largest themed carnival in Singapore to date will open its gates this month starting Dec 8 up to April of 2018. The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival features over 40 adrenaline-pumping rides which include the park’s more popular attraction, the Star Flyer, a 35-m tower ride that will take you (almost) sky-high for a spectacular 360-degree view of the city, as well as other rides such as cyclone coasters, orbiter cars, pirate ships, and the classic log flume ride.
Satisfy your taste buds with local delights including lemongrass chicken rice bowls and chendol soft serve.
In addition, guests will be treated to powerful performances from local artists including singer-songwriter Tay Ke Xin and ace rapper, TheLionCityBoy.
The Christmas season is all about giving and sharing, and what better way to do it than by setting aside some of your time to join a fund-raising event to help grant wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Santa Run for Wishes is an event organized by Make-a-Wish Singapore and is open to runners and health buffs of all ages. There will be a 2-km and a 5-km event open for adults ($52) and children ($42), as well as a family package priced at $188 that is good for 4 people. The event will be held at The Promontory @ Marina Bay on December 9 from 7:30 am – 11 am.
This Christmas season, the biggest pet expo event – Pets Jingle, will hit Singapore Turf Club on Dec 9-10, from 11am-9pm with a ton-full of exciting activities in store such as a health-care seminar for pet owners, a costume event for pets and lots of discounted pet goodies for sale. Dress up your furry best friend in festive apparel and sign up for the Best Christmas-themed Dress-Up Canine Contest for a chance to snag exciting prizes. Register early to be part of the first 1,000 RSVPs who will take home limited edition giveaways.
Fans of Japanese subculture have plenty of reasons to be merry this season because Marina Barrage will be the host of the EOY J-Culture Festival from Dec 9-10 where aficionados and lovers of everything related to Japanese culture unite and spend a day of dress-up, cosplay, anime and J-Pop madness. Followers of the event can expect amazing performances from J-pop artists both from here and abroad, as well as a number of booths and stalls selling Japanese merchandises such as anime illustrations and limited-edition items.
Noise Singapore will be back again this year on Dec 16 from 6:30 pm-10:30 pm for another round-up of some of the country’s most promising performers who are raring to showcase their talents and to make it in the music scene just like past winners in the likes of Lewis Loh, Charlie Lim, and The Façade. Aside from the musical showcases, a Christmas Market will be set up shop full of food and retail merchandises. And to make things more exciting, attendees of the concert will have free access to manicure and face-painting stations.
If you’ve been wanting to spend quality time with family and loved ones this holiday season, why don’t you head over to Suntec City for an intimate movie night ($28) under the stars at an open-air rooftop yard on the night of December 24. Get cosy cuddling with a loved one and enjoy a glass of wine, hot green tea, a wide array of snack selections and popcorn as you watch a Christmas favourite, the Polar Express.
Come by the venue at 6:15 pm, an hour early for the movie screening at 7:15 pm, to join a relaxing yoga session to release the stiffness in your joints and muscles in preparation for the night’s main event.
From Dec. 1 up to Dec. 26, the Gardens by the Bay will transform into a Christmas Wonderland in celebration of the yuletide season. Guests can look forward to plenty of exciting activities from ice skating and playing carnival games to going on a joy ride at the on-site Ferris wheel and bumper cars. There will also be choice European cuisine and flavoured wine available at the venue to get you warmed up before you cap the night off by watching a solid performance by Circus Abyssinia, a group of Ethiopian acrobatic performers who will send chills all over your body with their high-flying and death-defying stunts.
