Being employed, as some would imagine, does not entirely sum up one’s professional goals as a person. We may have work, but it could be more of a developed routine or a habit, which no longer challenges or poses new opportunities for us to think beyond the confines of what we already know.
It is for this reason that continuous learning is a must, no matter what industry or field we may be in. Pursuing higher learning does not even mean sticking to the foundations of what we’ve already learned from school or experiences from our line of work. Learning begins when the curiosity to challenge conventions and go beyond boundaries happens.

Singaporean Festival to Offer Free Skill Training & Workshops on July 6
In line with this, a community event called the Skills for Good Festival, which will feature up to 50 booths, courses and taster workshops organised by the Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC), will be held at Toa Payoh HDB Hub atrium in Singapore this July 6.
As the event will be entirely free of charge, interested participants are encouraged to pre-register for taster activities, where each person may sign up for at least two workshops.
With over 50 booths expected to set up shop at the event, there will be plenty of programmes available to people of all ages. Here are some activities which you can look forward to at the Skills for Good Festival:
- Have fun with robotics.
If you’re fascinated with robots, be sure to sign up for this workshop because not only will you get to learn how to program and control a robot, you’ll also get the chance to play a robotics football game. How cool is that?
- Write robot programmes.
And if you’re also into the intricacies of designing robotic programmes, be sure to check out a stage demonstration conducted by Brainery Code at 12:30pm, where participants can try out how to modify and test robot programmes. The interactive element also includes a friendly showdown between participants’ robots.
- Pick up some basic sign language.
In this day and age, it pays to learn a thing or two about sign communication, as this has great application not only in the workplace but also in greater society, as well.
- Rack your brains and dabble with data analytics.
Almost everything revolves around data nowadays. Riding on this trend, there is also a taster workshop on data analytics at Skills for Good Festival. Learn how to maximise business opportunities and make informed decisions with data software tools. There will also be a talk on data analytics by lecturers from Nanyang Polytechnic at 11:30 am on stage.
- Learn how to set up an online business.
For those who are looking to explore new avenues for making income, then consider joining the workshop on how to run an online business. Learn the key considerations and some strategies that one can apply at one of the taster courses.
Additionally, there will also be make-up and culinary stage demonstrations, as well as jewellery making and upcycling workshops.
