Nepal – Rescue teams in Nepal pressed on through a grim sixth day of searching after catastrophic floods along the country’s northern border with China left hundreds dead and thousands unaccounted for. The disaster, which struck last Wednesday, has become one of the deadliest to hit the region in recent memory.
What the Latest Update Shows
According to a news report, Nepal’s disaster authority confirmed on Monday, August 31, 2026, that at least 903 people have died, with a staggering 4,247 still missing.
The floods didn’t stop at Nepal’s borders. Chinese state media reported 16 deaths and 546 people missing in Tibet. When both countries’ figures are combined, the toll climbs to 919 dead and 4,793 missing.
A Heavy Cost for Workers and Foreigners
The scale of loss touches many groups, including people who traveled from abroad. Nepal’s list of the missing includes 592 foreigners, a detail that hits close to home for overseas Filipino communities who understand the risks of being far from family during a crisis.
Also among the missing are 933 workers from hydropower projects built along the river that the raging waters tore through.

The Toll Spreads Beyond Nepal
The tragedy’s reach extended into India as well. Authorities in Uttar Pradesh state recovered 17 bodies from rivers flowing out of Nepal, believed to be flood victims carried downstream. Indian officials are still working to identify them, so those deaths are not yet counted in the official toll.
